Welcome to the +1 Global Fund for Food Security! You have been invited to submit up to 3 nominations for locally-led, earlier-stage organizations addressing food insecurity anywhere in Africa. For more context on how the +1 process works, please see the +1 Overview page. And, for examples of organizations already supported, please see the +1 Food Security Directory.

If one of your nominated organizations is selected, they will receive a USD $12,000 grant and a suite of non-financial support, and you will receive a $1,000 honorarium (per selected organization). When nominating organizations, please keep the following requirements and preferences in mind, in order to improve your chances of making a successful nomination.

Required (all)


  1. Strengthening food security—physical or economic access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food to meet dietary needs—for vulnerable communities anywhere in Africa
  2. Annual budgets less than USD $500,000
  3. Locally-led—i.e. majority of the organization's executive leaders were born and/or raised in, or are otherwise reflective of communities in, Africa
  4. Headquartered anywhere in Africa
  5. Non-profit, for-profit, or hybrid organizations with a charitable purpose (excluding government entities)

Preferred (one or more)*


  1. Working in countries and communities facing significant food insecurity (e.g. Burkina Faso, Burundi, CAR, Cameroon, Chad, DRC, Ethiopia, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, Zimbabwe)
  2. Targeting those facing significant economic, political, environmental, or other shocks (e.g. conflicts, natural disasters, climate-related stressors), and building their resilience
  3. Targeting women and girls specifically
