Welcome to the +1 Global Fund for Food Security! You have been invited to submit up to 3 nominations for early-stage, locally-led organizations addressing food insecurity anywhere in Africa. If one of your nominated organizations is selected for support, they will receive a USD $12,000 grant, and you will receive a $2,000 grant. When making your nominations, please keep the following requirements and preferences in mind:
Required
- Organizations that are strengthening food security—physical or economic access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food to meet dietary needs—within vulnerable communities anywhere in Africa
- Early-stage organizations with annual budgets less than USD $1,000,000
- Organizations that are locally-led—i.e. the organization’s leaders are from or reside in the communities in which they’re working
- Non-profit, for-profit, or hybrid organizations (excluding government entities) with a charitable purpose
Preferred
- Organizations working in countries facing significant food insecurity
- Organizations addressing a food security-related need that is felt across the continent
- Organizations building communities’ resilience to future shocks (such as climate change)
- Organizations working more “upstream”, such as by influencing food producers, distributors, government agencies, large companies, or others who maintain a region’s food system
- Organizations working to “localize” a region’s food system, such as by shifting power towards local consumers, producers, and distributors
- Organizations working to coordinate various food system stakeholders
- Organizations building the capacity of specific food system stakeholders
- Organizations with the ambition to influence a food system at a regional or national level
